Lusignan Golf Club pays tribute to Alvis

Members of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) Saturday lauded its outgoing president Lester Alvis for his contribution to the sport during his stint in Guyana as head of Courts Guyana Inc.

William Walker, LGC secretary said Alvis was a very active member who assisted greatly in the administration of the club.

Walker said the club appreciated Alvis’s contribution and wished him well in his future endeavours.

Alvis, who hails from England, came to Guyana  close to eight years ago to work with the local furniture giants and just a few months ago was elected president of the LGC.

Alvis had a packed programme streamelined for the club for this year before he received his new appointment in St. Lucia as head of operations in the Eastern Caribbean Island.

He was instrumental in securing sponsorship for the club and boosting its membership drive.

According to Alvis, he came to Guyana at a very difficult time when there was social unrest following the 2003 jailbreak.

“Lusignan played a very important part in my life in Guyana. When I go to St. Lucia I will arrange a tournament and invite members of the club to attend,” he added.

The Courts Inc. tournament played off last weekend was a fitting tribute to Alvis who was instrumental in securing the sponsorship.

Members of the LGC presented Alvis with a gift and offered best wishes to the ardent golfer and his family.
