Two injured in fiery Mahdia mishap

Two men were yesterday afternoon air-dashed to the city and admitted to the Burn Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital after a fiery mishap at Mahdia, Region 8.

Reports reaching Stabroek News state that Royston Harry, 20, of Supply, East Bank Demerara and Gopaul Basmattie, 24, of 2310 Tuschen Housing Scheme were discharging gasoline from a drum near a kitchen when the hose they were using burst.

The men were caught in the resulting explosion and sustained burns to the legs, face and about the torso, reports say.

This newspaper understands that Harry’s condition is the more serious of the two with what appears to be second degree burns while Basmattie suffered burns around the genital area and legs.

A check at the hospital last night revealed that the men were resting and undergoing treatment.
