The Guyana national senior netball team yesterday took on the United Athletic Club in their fourth match of the International Commercial Tournament currently being held in Barbados, and according to Secretary of the Guyana Netball Association (GNA) Lawrence Griffith the Guyanese have been showing incremental improvements.

Earlier, the national team had played three other matches, twice against the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) and once against Bryden. They lost all three matches, but Griffith said improvements were seen as the team closed the margin of the loss with each succeeding match.

In the first match against the BWU on Sunday, the Guyana team was trounced 60-25.

The following day, the Guyana team came within grasp of a victory, edged out 23-22 by Bryden.

Despite registering another significant loss to the BWU once again on Wednesday, the team managed to restrict the points’ difference to 12, ending the match 45–33.

According to Griffith, the national team is doing well at the tournament particularly in the light of Barbados being known for high quality players.

“I think that the team is doing well in the circumstances, because Barbados has top quality players and a well organized tournament. But if you observe the statistics for each match, the team played better in each successive game, they continued to improve in the other games. And then the second game had a dispute with the results and that had to be rechecked, we came very close to winning,” Griffith said.
