Pacesetters, Panthers win

With only one game remaining in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Division Three and Open leagues, the Courts Pacesetters and Colours Panthers once again etched their names among the winners Thursday night at the Burnham Court.

The Pacesetters had some shortcomings in the opening game against the Eagles but rallied in the end to take a 67-54 victory, while the Panthers cruised past the Macabees to relish a 72-48 win and close the night’s two Division Three games.

Eagles held the Pacesetters close when the first quarter ended with Pacesetters leading 11-10, but that was the closest the Eagles would get to surpass their opponents on the scoreboard.

By the halftime whistle the Eagles were trailing by double figures (13 points), but hauled their way back into the end of the third quarter to come within seven points of the Pacesetters total.

After their good strides in the third period, they faltered in the final quarter and allowed the Pacesetters to run away with a double digit lead.

Playing pivotal roles for the Pacesetters were Jermaine Slater with 17 points and Calvin Andrews who contributed 12.

Mario Skeete totaled a game high 18 points for the Eagles, while Neil Gordon contributed 15.

Game two saw the Macabees on the receiving end of a trouncing at the hands of the Panthers, who were in the hunt for a much needed victory and easily got it after dominating the Macabees for the entire four quarters.

They won the first 20-10, second 39-24, third 50-47 and were cruising by the end of the final quarter 24 points ahead.
