Pedestrian crossing needed on highway outside Eccles Housing Scheme

Dear Editor,
Can someone in charge please put back, or fix the pelican crossing on the busy East Bank Highway outside Eccles Housing scheme, so that children and adults will know when it is safe to cross the road?

We used to have a crossing that actually made a noise when it was time to cross and showed a green man, but now we have neither, and crossing the busy road is hazardous for me as an adult, therefore it must be harder for children. Please do not wait until there is an accident or a fatality before this important issue is dealt with.

Every school day children use this crossing to reach their primary school or to catch a bus on the way to town, and they shouldn’t have to play a guessing game to know when it is safe to cross the road.

In addition to this I find most drivers very inconsiderate when it comes to slowing down or stopping to let children or even adults cross the road. They do not care how intimidating they appear as they edge their vehicles forward while pedestrians are crossing the road.
Yours faithfully,
