Letter was ‘totally subjective’

Dear Editor,

“If the PPP/C with the support of the indigenous people is able to win the next elections, the status quo will remain and this will do nothing to remove Amerindian marginalization nor ease African-Guyanese alienation and the present conflictual/debilitating conditions will continue and perhaps be even worse.”

This quote from former PNC activist and subsequent PPP/C cabinet minister Henry B Jeffrey I find totally subjective and devoid of any analytical input. It is dangerously controversial and provocative and therefore leads one to question the agenda being pursued.

The scenario which he painted and as restated in the beginning of this communication must be properly delved into and cannot be left to individual conjecture. In fact the entire contribution headlined, ‘The Amerindians need to begin a transition from being a people in themselves to being one for themselves’ in SN of September 18, exposes it to severe criticism. I believe that Henry is capable of doing far better.

Yours faithfully,
David de Groot
