Suspect in hit and run death of Vigilance man arrested

Police have arrested a man who is suspected to have struck and killed a miner at the Vigilance Railway line on Thursday before fleeing the scene.
Miner Biko Edwards, 30, of Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara, was struck around 3:15 pm and died before receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Police in Division ‘C’ on the East Coast  of Demerara, acting on information, went to a house at Lot 212 Lusignan West and arrested the suspect, who was identified as a vehicle body work fabricator. The vehicle fingered in the accident is also in police custody, according to a police press release issued last night.

Meanwhile, police are hunting a taxi driver who managed to slip away after he was involved in an accident on the Kitty Public Road yesterday. The registered owner of the vehicle HB 5415 has been located and is in custody. The taxi is a green Carina motor car and it was involved in an accident about 1 pm yesterday at Kitty Public Road.
