Construction worker succumbs after Friendship accident

A construction worker who was injured in an accident along the Friendship Public Road, on the East Coast of Demerara, succumbed to his injuries last Sunday.

Eon Anderson, 41, of Lot 88 Vigilance North, East Coast Demerara, was struck by a car, PVV 2930, which was being driven by a sales representative of Nonpareil, East Coast Demerara, on September 1st. At the time, Anderson was riding his motorcycle,

CJ 9825.

According to a Guyana Police Force release, the car was proceeding west along the southern side of the Vigilance Public Road, on the East Coast, when the vehicle slowed down in the vicinity of the Vigi-lance Police Station, where two police officers were performing duties at the time.

The release said as the driver passed the police, he accelerated his vehicle, which then collided with the motor cycle driven by Anderson, who at the time was proceeding north from the Friendship Access Road onto the Friend-ship Public Road and into the path of the car.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the car lost control and ended up about 250 feet away in the Friendship Burial Ground.

Anderson was subsequently picked up in an unconscious state and transported to the George-town Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient suffering from head injuries and a fractured left foot. 

A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the car and a reading showed he was below the legal limit. 

Police say investigations into the accident are still ongoing
