Sampson, who appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, was also charged with the attempted murder of Rajendra Persaud, the CEO of Nand Persaud & Co Ltd and robbery under arms committed on Vasantie ‘Sandra’ Ganesh also on May 17.

These charges come just over two weeks after he was charged with possession of a cache of high-powered weapons and ammunition.

The court heard that on the day in question, Sampson, in the company of others, armed with a dangerous weapon murdered Gobin. On the same day, it was alleged, he attempted to murder Persaud and had robbed Ganesh of $5,000 and a handbag.

On the day in question, Gobin, 47, and Persaud, 46, were in separate vehicles responding to a call from Ganesh (Persaud’s sister) whose Wellington Park home was being attacked by bandits.

Both vehicles came under fire from the bandits. Persaud ducked and a bullet grazed the back of his head. His vehicle then crashed into a utility pole and ended up in a ditch.

Gobin was hit in the head by bullets and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital.

The bandits had carried high-powered rifles during the attack and used sledgehammers to gain entry into the house.

Sampson was not required to plead and was remanded until November 5. The case was transferred to Whim Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, on September 24, Sampson was remanded to prison by Magistrate Nagamootoo after appearing before her charged with possession of high-powered weapons and ammunition. He was also read on two indictable counts of resisting arrest, committed on Constables Gladwin James and Darrel Ramsay, who were executing their duties on September 21.

Sampson allegedly had in his possession of two AK-47 rifles, a 12-gauge shotgun and a Uzi automatic weapon along with ammunition.
