The man whose pit bulls were said to have viciously attacked and disfigured Patrick Gordon almost two months ago was yesterday placed on $40,000 bail when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Court, charged with suffering his un-muzzled dogs to be at large.
The allegation is that on August 23, Quacy Bharrat of 658 East Ruimveldt
Housing Scheme, Georgetown, being the owner of ferocious dogs, suffered them to be at large and un-muzzled, causing injuries to Patrick Gordon.
The 34-year-old mechanic pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey in presenting the facts of the case said that on the day in question at approximately 03:00 hrs the virtual complainant was on his way home from work when he was viciously attacked by the defendant’s dogs which are of the pit bull breed.
According to Harvey, “the dogs which were not properly secured in their kennel at the time, as they should have been,” escaped from their owner’s yard and pounced on the unsuspecting Gordon.
Bharrat’s attorney made an application that his client be admitted to reasonable bail.
The prosecution had no objection to the accused being granted his pretrial liberty. The attorney’s application was granted and his client was admitted to bail in the sum of $40,000.
He was ordered to return to court on November 8 for statements.
