Cop to face rape charge

A 32-year-old policeman will appear in court later this week over allegations that he raped a girl under the age of sixteen on October 5.

A senior police officer told Stabroek News that the charge will be instituted based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The rank who is attached to the Mounted Branch and who lives at Number 30 Village, West Coast Berbice was placed under close arrest shortly after the allegation was made and was later released on station bail.

The incident reportedly took place at Plantation Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara.
