Problems with SN web page

Dear Editor,

Since the change made in your web page presentation of the daily paper, I have been having no end of trouble accessing your web page and having a continuous read of the news, letters, etc.

I use Internet Explorer 7 and my system is Windows XP.

What I find is that as soon as your web page comes up, a message appears on the screen that Windows cannot show the web page. However after a few tries I do get the web page.

However, as I browse, I might get to see a couple of pages before the same message appears that Windows cannot show the web page.

The system freezes and as soon as I click on the X, the web page vanishes. With persistence I do get to see your pages but amidst these difficulties and interruptions.

My questions: 1. Have other internet readers reported similar difficulties on accessing your web page? 2. Is it that you have some restrictions built into your web page to inhibit some users?

It is only with your web page that I have this daily recurring situation.

Yours faithfully,
Carl Veecock

Editor’s note

We sent a copy of this letter to our webmaster, and received the following response which has been forwarded to Mr Veecock personally:

“No one else has reported this issue, but this sounds like a javascript error. At the moment I do not have a PC with Internet Explorer 7 to reproduce the problem, so I will need some time to give a definite answer on this.

In the meantime, I would suggest that Mr Veecock upgrade his browser to Version 8, which is recommended by Microsoft for security. He can get it quickly at this site: www.IE8optimized.com

The website also works fine in all versions of Firefox, Safari and Google chrome, and no, we do not intentionally place restrictions on user access to our website unless it is to protect our web servers from attacks.”
