GMR&SC should return the $40M

Dear Editor,

I noticed some weeks ago that the President allocated $40M to the repaving of the Timehri race track. It is hard to justify such expenditure on a number of levels.

Drive around the country and one will see miles of minor roads in terrible condition. These are used by farmers to get produce to market and workers who trudge through mud to reach their places of employment. Why should those folks, the backbone of this country, who are just trying to make a living, be given less priority than the elite who drive their cars for fun? Surely the race track must be the last road paved in this country once all the other roads are repaired.

The GMR&SC is made up of many, many wealthy people. They need to ask themselves whether they should accept this taxpayers’ money or instead raise the funds amongst themselves. If they have a conscience they would return the donation with a polite note that they would like the funds spent on roads that actually take people and produce places.

Yours faithfully,
