Why dig up Dr Persaud’s past?

Dear Editor,

I am greatly disturbed when I view some statements made in the media about Dr Vishwamintra Persaud. It seems like this man is on trial for a crime that has not been documented in the law books and which befits a sentence we know nothing about. Equally disturbing is the statement made by the Minister for Human Services that this doctor should be dismissed. This is preposterous; I should ask, dismissed for what? What crime did he commit or is presently on trial for?

The fact is this man has committed a crime and was punished for it, so what’s the charge? My knowledge of the law is once someone has gone through the process of trial, conviction and sentencing that person has fulfilled his obligation to the state and has earned the entitlement to be re-integrated into society as any normal citizen. Why dig up Dr Vishwamintra’s past when this matter has been dealt with already?

Yours faithfully,
Neil Adams
