Cops hunting man accused of attempted rape at Kwakwani

Police at Kwakwani are on the hunt for a resident who attempted to rape a ten-year-old girl.
According to residents, shortly after 8 pm on Wednesday they heard the child’s loud screams. “We hear dis desperate hard screaming and I couldn’t help but fuh go out and see,“ one man said. Another said that after hearing the screams he rushed to the area and saw the man fighting to force himself on the juvenile.

According to reports, several others came out and while they were attempting to arrest the man he managed to escape. They said the police in the area were summoned but never showed up until a long time after.
The child’s mother said the man had asked her to allow the child to go sell bread and she agreed.

She said she was at work when she got word of what had taken place.
The child was taken to the Kwakwani Hospital and examined. The man is still at large and police and members of the community are searching for him.

Residents expressed disgust at the actions of police when they arrived on the scene. They said that ranks arrested the man who played a key role in saving the child, because at the time the man was using a motorcycle without the relevant licence. “Before they hustle to get the [attacker] they were more concern with arresting de person who save de child,“ a resident complained.
