CARICOM team to monitor St. Vincent and the Grenadines elections

A CARICOM Electoral Mission will observe next Monday’s general elections in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, following an invitation from the government of the country.

The Guyana Elections Commission’s Chief Elections Officer Gocool Boodhoo is the Chief of Mission while Carson Raggie of Saint Lucia will serve as Deputy Chief of Mission, said a release from the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen. The mission will comprise 12 observers from seven member states and will be assisted by staff members of the CARICOM Secretariat.

A core group comprising the Chief and Deputy Chief of Mission and a CARICOM Secretariat staff member arrived in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday while the remaining observers will arrive tomorrow.

The entire team will depart St. Vincent and the Grenadines on December 15.

Electoral Observer Missions are regarded as critical to the CARICOM’s efforts to foster democratic principles and the maintenance of good governance in the region, the release stated. In addition, the missions allow for the observation and documentation of the general elections process for the official and historical records of the Community. The records are preserved as a point of reference for similar activities.
