Bandits grab $1M in jewels in Best attack

Three men robbed a Best, West Coast Demerara businesswoman of over $1 million worth in jewellery and several cellular phones on Wednesday night.

In a press statement issued yesterday, police said that they are investigating the armed robbery that occurred at about 8.30 that night. Pulmattie Ramkissoon, 44, they said, was attacked by three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The businesswoman, police said, was cleaning her house on the night of the incident.

The back door to the house was left open and it was through there the men gained entry and held up Ramkissoon and two other occupants.

Investigations have since revealed that the men then took away a quantity of jewellery valued at $1 million and four cellular phones, after which they escaped.

During the incident Ramkissoon was assaulted to her head, police said.  She was treated at the    West Demerara Regional Hospital and sent away.
