Men fined and jailed for cocaine smoking utensils

Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday fined and imprisoned two men found with utensils used in the smoking of cocaine.

She ordered that Shafeek Khan, pay a fine of $25,000 and serve one year’s imprisonment, while she ordered that another man, Seon Clarke, pay a fine of $30,000 and serve two years’ imprisonment.

The duo had pleaded guilty to separate charges of unlawful possession of utensils used in the smoking of cocaine.

Clark and Khan had admitted that on January 4 they had utensils used in smoking cocaine in their possession.

Clarke had told the court that he was using the utensil to smoke the cocaine with thirteen others when the police raided the place that they were in and arrested only four of them. Clarke then stated that the utensil did not belong to him but to one of the men who had escaped during the raid.

“But I dey smoking with de utensil My Worship”, stated Clarke.

Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth had stated that Clarke had been charged before for trafficking in narcotics.

Meanwhile, Khan stated, “ah sorry….Please gimme a chance”. The two were later escorted out of the court by a policeman.
