T&T Cricket Board mourns death of cricket lover Sir Ellis

The T&T Cricket Board has joined the rest of the national community in mourning the death of  the  first President of the Republic Sir Ellis Clarke who passed away on Thursday night at the age of 93.

Sir Ellis, who was an avid sports fan served as patron of the T&TCB during his two terms as president between 1976 and 1987.

Azim Bassarath, president of the T&TCB said yesterday he was saddened to learn of Sir Ellis’ and fondly remembered the former diplomat and constitutional expert as being extremely affable and charming.

He has extended deep and sincere condolences on behalf of the T&TCB to the family of Sir Ellis and also the citizens of the twin-island republic on the loss.
“Sir Ellis was also very interested in cricket and kept abreast of all  the latest developments in the game.

He will be missed by all  who were impressed with his down to earth manner and genuine interest in the affairs of  his fellowman,” said Bassarath.

The former president had been ailing since last month when he suffered a massive stroke and was recuperating at home when he quietly passed away early Thursday night in the presence of his close family.
