Candy man on ganja charge

Candy vendor Wayne Prescott was yesterday charged with possession of narcotics.
Prescott, of Lot 9 Laing Avenue, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to the charge, on January 5, 2011, Prescott had two grammes of cannabis in his possession.

When given a chance to explain himself, Prescott said after purchased a hotdog at a shop, he noticed a policeman following him.

He said the officer turned around and picked up something then told him that the item belonged to him. He explained that without being given a chance to speak, he was held by his shirt and taken to the station by the officer.

After hearing his defence, the magistrate placed Prescott on $5,000 bail and transferred the case to Court 5 for January 14.
