Crane man in custody over New Year’s cutlass assault

While Shaunell Warrick’s condition remains unchanged in the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital, her attacker was on Tuesday turned over to the police by a relative of the woman.

Rudolph London was supposed to make an appearance at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer to the charge of attempted murder. However, this newspaper learnt that he did not appear and he is expected to be arraigned today.

This newspaper has learnt that London was taken into the Ruimveldt Police Station by a cousin of the woman and was later transferred to the Vreed-en-Hoop Station.

On New Year’s Day, Warrick was severely beaten by London. Warrick, 39, of 3471 Stevedore Housing Scheme, sustained head injuries as a result of a beating with a cutlass, relatives said. Warrick, a mother of two and a teacher at the East Street Nursery School, was attacked at the man’s home, at Crane, West Coast Demerara. The woman has a fractured skull and doctors have told her family that she has a “50/50” chance of survival.
