Violent robbery suspect picked out in line up -court told

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday placed a man on $75,000 bail after he was charged with robbery with violence.

Marlon Persaud, 23, of 70 Hog Street, Albouystown, pleaded not guilty when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. It is alleged that on January 2, Persaud robbed Andrew Parsram of $49,000 and at the time or immediately after used personal violence on the victim.

Police Corporal, Venetta Pindar told the court that Parsram was pushing a cart along the West Ruimvedt road when Persaud approached him and dealt him two cuffs. Persaud allegedly took away the man’s money and rode away on a bicycle.

A report was later made and Persaud was arrested. Parsram positively identified Persaud in an ID parade, the court was told.
The prosecution made no objection to bail but asked that it be granted in a substantial amount. After bail was fixed, the case was transferred to Court 5 for January 17.
