BCB appoints executives, set up committees for 2011-2012

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) appointed five executives and reconstructed several committees at its recent planning meeting for 2011/2012.

Led by President Keith Foster, the appointments were done in keeping with efforts to ensure that all areas in Berbice were given representation at the highest level of the Board. The appointees are Julian Cambridge of West Berbice, Qualis Winter of Kildonan and Central Corentyne, Godfrey Persaud of Port Mourant and Lower Corentyne, Shabeer Baksh of Blairmont and West Berbice and Lionel Thomas of Upper Corentyne.
Veteran Cricket Administrator Carl Moore was named Chairman of the Competitions Committee, while the Senior Selection Committee would once again be led by second Vice President and former First Division player Mark Lyte. Long-serving selector Leslie Solomon heads the Junior Selection Committee once again and all the members of the last committee were returned.

In keeping with its efforts to curb indiscipline among cricketers and clubs in Berbice has also established a Disciplinary Committee which will be headed by former magistrate and attorney-at-law Rohan Chandan. The Cricket Development Committee which will be headed by Lyte also includes Winston Smith, Albert Smith, Hubern Evans, Julian Moore, Adrian Amsterdam, Delbert Hicks, Renwick Batson and Muthuswammi Permaul of Albion Community Centre Cricket Club.

Third Vice President Evans heads the four-member Financial and Fundraising while Hilbert Foster, the younger brother of the BCB president Keith, was reappointed Chairman of the highly successful Special Events Committee. Hilbert Foster, Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, was also reappointed as the BCB Public Relations Officer with Moore his deputy.

The BCB has set itself a target of at least 15 cricket tournaments from the Under-13 to the senior levels, and a total of 75 off-field programmes. The 2011 cricket season will be launched mid-February with the Rohan Kanhai Tribute Match at the No. 69 Ground in Upper Corentyne.
