Women accused of assault after Sports Club brawl

Two women were yesterday placed on bail for wounding and assaulting each other.

It is alleged that on January 15, at the Transport Sports Club, Marva Mason maliciously wounded Jacqueline Charles, who in turn unlawfully assaulted Mason.

Appearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, both Mason and Charles pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

According to an attorney representing one of the women, they were at a party and had a misunderstanding, which led to a fight. The attorney added that there was some pelting involved.

The matter was adjourned until January 24 and Mason and Charles were granted bail in the sum of $40,000 and 10,000, respectively. The magistrate also placed the women on a bond to keep the peace.
