AAG Developmental Meet shifted to Eve Leary

The Developmental Meet which was to be hosted in Linden this Sunday has been relocated to the Police Sports Club (PSC) Ground, Eve Leary, according to President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Colin Boyce.

The event was originally scheduled to be held at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground, Linden. However, Boyce, speaking with Stabroek Sport yesterday Boyce explained that another event is expected to be held at the MSC venue the Saturday evening before and it is not expected that the ground would be ready in time for the meet the following morning. “We’re hoping to have it shifted to the Police Sports Club Ground because on the evening of the 29th there is expected to be an event at the ground making it impossible to hold the meet the next day, on the 30th. They will have to dismantle the stage and things like that the next day, and the ground would not be ready in time,” Boyce explained.

“The ground (PSC) is expected to be cut tomorrow [today] and once that is done everything will be put in place to have the meet this weekend. Everything, all the logistical arrangements, the cutting and the marking of the ground, are expected to be put in place by Thursday night. Once all of this is completed the meet will be held at Police,” he added.

Boyce also shared that as a result of having this Sunday’s meet transferred to the PSC the association has resolved, in all fairness, to have the Developmental Meet scheduled for the PSC on February 6 relocated to the Linden venue.

“We’re moving it [the Developmental Meet] to Police Ground and we’re moving the Developmental Meet on the 6th (February) to Linden,” Boyce said

This Developmental Meet is the second event on the AAG’s 2011 calendar of events, and is the first of a string of meets scheduled for the next four Sundays.

The third meet will be held on February 13 at the Guyana Defence Force Ground, and the fourth is set for the Enmore Ground, East Coast Demerara on February 20.

In addition to the meets, next month will see Guyana’s participation at the North America, Central America and the Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships to be held in Trinidad and Tobago on February 19.

So far the association has been looking into the possibility of having nine athletes attend this event.
