Brazilian gold miner robbed of $600,000

A Brazilian gold miner was robbed at Robb Street, Bourda on Wednesday night by three gunmen who shot at his car before escaping in a waiting vehicle.

The incident, police said in a release, occurred at about 7 pm. Miner Francisco De Assis, 55, was confronted by three men armed with handguns at the Georgetown location.

Investigations, police said, “revealed that Francisco De Assis was in a motor vehicle parked on the roadway, when he was held up and robbed of $600,000.  During the process, one of the perpetrators discharged a round which struck the door of the motor vehicle after which they escaped in a waiting motor car.”
