I am not feeling any political vibrations coming from the opposition parties in Guyana. There are no vibes. It appears to me as if there is a death in a family and everybody is mourning. The only sound or vibration we are getting is from the People’s Progressive Party.
There are enough intellectuals among Guyana’s politicians in the PNC, WPA and AFC to form a government that could replace the PPP. Mr Robert Corbin should give up this so-called leadership in the PNC and step aside to allow young, militant, aspiring members to come forward to prove themselves as competent leaders. No young person will join the police force and want to remain at the bottom until he/she retires.
This young person will hope some day to become the commissioner of police. No young nurse will join the medical profession and want to remain a nurse on the floor until retirement.
That young person will some day want to become a ward sister or matron; likewise for every young person joining a political party. Mr Corbin is blocking the way for ambitious politically minded persons from joining the PNC, since he indicated that he will retain the leadership of the party.
All young politically minded individuals should wake up from their sleep and send out some vibes to the Guyanese public over eighteen years of age to come out and vote in large numbers. We have not been feeling any political vibration since the death of Walter Rodney. Politicians need to rise up and win the election in order to reclaim Guyana from the PPP.
A call should be sent out to all politicians who have gone into retirement, such as Dr Aubrey Armstrong, Mr Aubrey Norton, Mr Jerome Khan, Mr Stanley Ming, Mr James McAllister and the entire women’s arm for them to come forward in this effort, so as to defeat the current government. Time is running out, and we do not have time to waste.
A special PNC congress should be called now to elect new executives and all posts, including the leadership post, should be placed on the table. The PNCR should invite three respected members from civil society to conduct the party’s election. Mr Corbin should have nothing to do with it.
The opposition parties in Guyana should wake up and commence this campaign and beat the PPP.
They can do it if they really want to.
