Woman denies drenching Courts repossession officer

A woman accused of drenching an officer attached to Courts Guyana Limited with a bucket of water after he visited her residence to repossess a stereo system that was in arrears was yesterday placed on $10,000 bail.

When the woman appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, she denied the assault charge which stated that on March 2 she unlawfully assaulted Wilton Tyndall.

Gordon told the court that she lives at 18 Gordon Street, Kitty. In presenting the prosecution’s facts of the case, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar told the court that on the day of the incident, the virtual complainant (VC) visited the home of the defendant where he informed her that she had outstanding payments for a stereo system that she had bought from Courts.  According to Pindar, after informing the woman that  her account was in arrears with the company, the complainant then told her that he was there to repossess the stereo system.

This, Pindar said, caused the accused to become annoyed and she went into her house after telling the man that she would return shortly with the item.

While he waited on the stairs, however, the corporal said that the accused returned with a bucket of water instead, with which she drenched the VC.

Pindar said that a police report was subsequently made which led to the woman’s arrest and charge. She said too that after being questioned by the police, Gordon accepted the allegation levelled against her.  Her matter was transferred to Court Three for March 14 for reports and fixtures for trial.
