Ganja field at De Veldt destroyed

Police destroyed a large marijuana field and a few nurseries at De Veldt, Berbice during a drug eradication exercise on Friday last.

The operation also unearthed ten 12-gauge cartridges, a 5 HP outboard engine, an electrical generator and a tarpaulin, which were found at an abandoned camp in the area.

A police press release said the field was about five acres in size, with approximately 7,000 plants ranging in height between 3’ and 6’. In addition, four nurseries with about 16,000 seedlings were destroyed.

Meanwhile, the police also reported that a double barrel shotgun along with four cartridges was found during a search at an abandoned building yesterday in the Dora, Linden-Soesdyke highway area.

No arrest was made during either operation and investigations are continuing.
