Gunmen grab $4M from BEV fisheries

Gunmen barged into the accounts office of BEV Fisheries yesterday afternoon and beat and shot an employee, before escaping with more than $4 million.

BEV accountant Michael Vieira and labourer Richie Sahadeo were in the office at the time of the attack, police said in a release yesterday. The robbery occurred at about 2.30pm at the Houston, East Bank Demerara location.

Vieira and Sahadeo were attacked by three men, two of whom were armed with guns. Sahadeo was beaten, shot in the knee and robbed of $70,000. Vieira was robbed of $4 million. The gunmen escaped in a waiting car.

Sahadeo has been admitted to a private hospital and is in a stable condition.
