North Ruimveldt students to set up after-school activities

Fifteen students from the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School recently visited the East La Penitence Health centre to acquaint themselves with the many aspects of health care offered at the centre.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the team, lead by Melissa King, president of Youth Ambassadors group in her community took up the challenge issued by Minister within the Ministry of Health Dr Bheri Ramsaran when he visited the school earlier in the year.

King and her group were surprised by the extent of the programme offered by the Centre and as such plan to utilise the after-hour services after school and over the weekend. The group intends to devote this time to learning about the programmes and brainstorm ways in which the wider community can benefit. They also plan to establish a youth friendly environmental club.

According to GINA, the Centre boasts a large waiting area equipped with a television station, screen, projector that can be used for health educational sessions. Space is also available for recreational activities such as badminton, volleyball, football and cricket.
