Man opts for jail term while wearing complainant’s clothes

The man who stole clothing from Albion Estate employee Mandoj Kumar Beepat  appeared before Magistrate  Faboya Azore  at Albion Court   dressed in the complainant’s  apparel  as he confessed to the charge of break and enter and larceny.

Huckumchand   Dalchand, 44, of Canefield  Village, East Canje,  was fined $50,000  with an alternative of three months imprisonment which he opted to serve.

Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting,  said that  on Monday the virtual complainant  who lived alone  secured his home, and proceeded to work. However, shortly afterwards, he received a telephone call from a neighbour who informed him of an intruder on his premises.

On arrival  Beepat observed that the padlock which secured the door on the lower flat was open and the thief was already dressed in his  red jersey and long blue  denim jeans which contained a wallet that had USD$4 and SRD$5. The total value of the items was  $7,400.

Dalchand, who by then had discarded his clothes, was  arrested and taken to  Rose Hall Police Outpost after  a policeman had responded to the report.
