GDF, DCC hunting final berths

The first day of the semi-finals of the Noble House Seafoods ended yesterday with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in varying positions of strength.

GDF, playing Transport Sports Club (TSC) at Camp Ayanganna ground, made 189 from 62.5 overs before restricting the visitors to 97-4 at stumps.

Right hander Marcus Watkins top scored for GDF with 55 which included five fours and a six while Ameer Khan (42), Mark Haynes (38) and Terence Madramootoo (24) lent the requisite support.

TSC spinner Azim Azeez continued to be among the leading wicket takers in the tournament with 6-89 while Jonathan Alphonso supported with 2-27.

In reply, Sherwin Mc Pherson (33) and Shafeek Ishmael (29) were the leading scorers for TSC while Clinton Collins captured 2-31.

Over at the DCC ground, the visitors Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) batted first and chalked up 160. A. Doman scored 35 while G. Charles made an unbeaten 26. Dennis Squires ripped through the GCC lineup to end with figures of 5-45 while Dexter George (2-14) and Premendra Jaigobin (2-42) were the other wicket takers.

Hopes for first innings points today will rest with Squires who returned with the bat to be on 32 not out.
