Man injured in gun trap; two held

A man was on Sunday caught in what is suspected to be a gun trap at the National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) Agricultural Road, Mon Repos East Coast Demerara. The man was shot to his right foot. Two men were subsequently held.

Teekaram Persaud Lall, 61, from his hospital bed said that he had gone for a walk and just around 5:03 pm the incident occurred. The man’s wife, Shirley, explained that they live close by and her husband went for a walk. She told this newspaper that is all she would be able to say since she was not present.

A police press release, however, stated that the individual was on a nearby Triumph farm, when he heard what sounded like a gunshot. The man sustained injuries to his right foot and was subsequently admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The release also stated that the police have recovered components of a gun trap along with a 12-gauge casing.

Two men were also arrested in relation to the matter and are currently in police custody assisting with the investigations.
