Craig resident bemused at storeroom fire

Craig resident Dawn Jarvis was awakened on Friday morning by shouts from neighbours alerting her that a storeroom in front of her yard was on fire.

Jarvis said that at about 9 am when she looked outside a building, which was once a shop, in which she stored additional furniture and house fittings, was afire.

“I don’t want to speculate but I really don’t know how that building catch afire because it had no electricity connected to it or anything that could malfunction and start a fire,” she said.

Neighbours, according to Jarvis, called the fire service and within a short period of time a tender arrived to put out the blaze. The small building is located just several feet away from Jarvis’s Lot 192 Second Street, Craig, East Bank Demerara house.

“I had three beds and a few other things in there but I am just glad that nothing didn’t happen to the house,” the woman said.

The woman said that she had given a statement to the fire officials but it was still unclear what started the fire. Jarvis insisted that she did not have any disagreements with anyone in the area.
