Mercedes Benz bursts into flames

A Mercedes Benz motor car yesterday afternoon burst into flames on the Rupert Craig Highway outside of Subryanville at around 1.30 pm.

Little is known about the explosion. When Stabroek News arrived on the scene firefighters had already extinguished the blaze. On the scene, staff from the Caricom Secretariat had gathered and told this newspaper they were also trying to gather details on what had occurred since it was a colleague’s vehicle.

The wrecked luxury vehicle parked in the corner of the Rupert Craig Highway.

Compton Sparman, Director of Operations for the Guyana Fire Service said that the fire service responded to a call. He noted that the fire service was unable to contact the owner of the vehicle since the driver had left the scene. The luxury vehicle he said was severely burnt.

The driver of the motor car PLL 6429 was not at the scene when this newspaper visited.

An eyewitness said after the car caught afire the driver pulled into the corner of the road and quickly exited and stood several feet away from car.

The man said the woman did not summon or request any help from neighbours or passers-by.
