Randy Persaud arrested outside Queens club

Former Office of the President staffer Dr Randy Persaud was on Friday evening arrested by members of the New York Police Department (NYPD), following an incident outside Club Tobago in Queens, New York, where President Bharrat Jagdeo and PPP/C presidential candidate Donald Ramotar were meeting with supporters.

One source told this newspaper that Persaud had been arrested for disorderly conduct, while responding to a group of vocal placard-bearing protestors gathered outside the venue. Stabroek News understands that he is likely to be charged.

both supporters of the PNCR and the AFC, who were airing their displeasure at the stewardship of Guyana under the Jagdeo administration. Some persons carried placards calling for an AFC government while others were advocating a PNCR government.  Other placards criticized the Jagdeo administration for its handling of the crime situation and narco-trade in Guyana. One took a swipe at the government’s One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) project calling it a scam. A video of the protest is currently being streamed on www.youtube.com.

There was a strong police presence on the scene and the protestors were, in fact, barricaded.
The group targeted Ramotar in most of their chants.
“Who bruk up GuySuCO?” the lead chanter asked.
“Ramotar” said the others in unison.
“Is he good for Guyana?” she asked.
“No,” they responded.

“Then what we must do?” she continued.
“Kick him out,” the protestors said.
Later when one protester shouted: “Who for President?” there was a loud cry of “Granger” from some of the protestors.

Protesters in New York against President Bharrat Jagdeo also invoked the name of imprisoned drug trafficker Roger Khan and his alleged involvement in the deaths of numerous persons. The protesters represented the PNCR and the AFC.
