Osama bin Laden’s death proves value of global alliance against terror -CARICOM

While Osama bin Laden’s death will not reduce the levels of global insecurity, it has proven the effectiveness of global alliances against terror, Grenadian Prime Minister and CARICOM Chairman Tillman Thomas has said.

In a statement released yesterday, Thomas said CARICOM joined with the international community in acknowledging bin Laden’s death with “sober satisfaction.”  He noted that the September 11, 2001 attacks authored by bin Laden claimed the lives of thousands, including more than 100 Caribbean nationals, and profoundly distressed all peace-loving members of the human family. At that time, CARICOM had demanded that the masterminds and colluders be found and justice be done.

“Bin Laden’s death does not reduce the levels of global insecurity that his brazen and dastardly terrorist act and those of his followers provoked, nor does it restore the lives so tragically taken or affected,” Thomas said. “It nevertheless contributes to the effectiveness of global alliances against terror and sends a clear message to those who would follow such a path that it is a futile and unrewarding means of achieving any end.”

Thomas added that CARICOM reaffirms its strong denouncement of terrorism and recommits to the fight against all threats against the innocent.
