Playing in front Mummy will be special, says Bishoo

GEORGETOWN, Guyana,  CMC – Today’s fifth and final one-dayer will have a special significance for leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo as he will showcase his skills in front of his mother for the first time.

The 25-year-old right-armer said his mother had played a tremendous role in his career following the death of his father and seeing her in the crowd at the National Stadium at Providence would be an exciting moment.

“I am really excited about playing for the West Indies in my own country for the first time. For me personally, it will be a good way to end the ODI series,” Bishoo said.

“There’s no place like home, and my mother will be there. This will be her first time seeing me play for the West Indies.

“I don’t have any brothers or sisters, and my dad passed away when I was only eight years old so it is just me and her. I know she is so proud of me and it will be really special for her to see me play at home.”
The soft-spoken Bishoo has had a huge impact since making his debut in the recent World Cup, and has already picked up 14 wickets in seven One-Day Internationals.

He has also been the leading bowler in the current one-day series with 10 scalps.
Bishoo, who was a late call up to the West Indies squad during the World Cup as a replacement for the injured Dwayne Bravo, said he always backed himself fully and committed himself to a rigid training regime.

“I believe in myself 100 percent. I stick to the basics, and go out there and do what I do best,” he pointed out.

“I’ve been playing cricket since I was 11 and the secret is simple: never stop training. The way I look at it, there are no holidays in cricket. I never stop training … rain or shine, I’m playing cricket.”
