Larissa Wiltshire overpowered Gabrielle Fraser 3 – 2 in the underlining match of the day on Friday when matches in the 12th Woodpecker Products Junior National Squash Tournament continued at the Georgetown Sports Club, Camp Street.
Meanwhile in an equally outstanding match yesterday Ashley DeGroot delivered a surprising defeat to Victoria Arjoon, in a five set battle that ended 4 – 11 9 – 11 11- 5 11 – 6 11 – 8.
On Friday, it took a all five sets for Wiltshire to master Fraser and pocket her second win since the tournament began on Tuesday.
Fraser never made it easy for Wiltshire, playing a tight first set that had the scores locked at 10 – 10 before consistency and errors would tip the scale in Fraser’s favour ending 12 – 14.
Wiltshire, though, would come on strongly to take the next two sets 11 – 9 11 – 7 and gain command of the match.
Fraser, was not done yet and secured an 11-4 win in the fourth game to send the match into the decisive fifth game.
In the fifth set, Fraser and Wiltshire traded points until the scored reached 7-7 at which stage Wiltshire took over, capitalising on Fraser’s mistakes to win the set the set 11 – 7.
This leaves Fraser with two wins and two losses in the tournament, thus far.
