Boy struck down on Agricola road

A nine-year-old boy was struck down by a car on Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara, while he was chasing after a cow.

Roy Barker, of Lot 61 Reema Street, Agricola, sustained injuries to his head and suffered a broken leg as a result of the accident, which occurred at around 7pm.

An eyewitness told this newspaper “every thing happened so fast….I don’t know exactly where the cow came from, but I saw the driver swerving out from the child and hitting the cow… If he didn’t do that the boy might have been killed.” The injured Barker was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment.

The cow died after the incident. Residents were unsure who owned the animal.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, which had licence plate PNN 4050, stopped at the accident scene and he was waiting for the police officers to conduct their investigations. There were no police officers at the scene when this newspaper left, about half an hour after the accident.
