Man charged with threatening to kill wife

Magistrate Ann McLennan granted a 55-year-old man who allegedly threatened to kill his wife if she refused to drink rat poison $15,000 bail and his wife $5,000 bail on an assault charge, when they appeared in court on Tuesday.

Rawlins and Judy Jones were also cross-charged with assault and threatening behaviour in the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court. The couple pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court heard that on Saturday July 23, at their home, Rawlin Jones unlawfully assaulted Judy Jones, his wife. It was also alleged that Jones on Tuesday July 5 gave his wife Judy Jones a rat poison tablet to drink with water and told her that if she did not drink it he would kill her.

In addition, Judy Jones, answered to a separate charge of assault. The court heard that at West Watooka she allegedly pushed her hands into her husband’s face and assaulted him during a confrontation over a misunderstanding.

The couple was ordered to return to court on October 11.
