Body on Issano trail died ID’ed as Linden man

Family members of a Linden man are seeking details concerning his death while he was at Issano, in Guyana’s hinterland, where police discovered his decomposing body along a trail

The body of Twain Samuel Moore, 35, also known as ‘Tago,’ was discovered by police along a trail at Issano on Thursday last week. According to the man’s mother, Burget Moore, a kitchen staffer at Linden Hospital, she spoke with her son on the evening of Monday, October 31.

“He called to wish me happy birthday. My birthday was Tuesday 1st November but he said that he couldn’t call then, so he had to call the night before,” she told Stabroek News.

Trying hard to suppress her tears, the mother said that she spoke with her son for a while and he didn’t sound as if anything was bothering him. “He told me he was coming out for Christmas and that he was sending out some money, [that] I must give it to his sister,” she added.

The next phone call received by the mother was on Thursday, when an anonymous person called and was inquiring about someone by the name of ‘Anthony.’ “I said that no Anthony is living here and I hung up. Then my cell phone rang and I answer and the person said mom, I am asking for this Anthony guy, he short, squatty, he speak Portuguese and he live in Linden,” the woman recounted.

She said that the description fit her son and she was then told, “He dead.” The caller said that he would have called back the following day to give the family the full details but never did.

Disturbed by the news, the woman said that relatives who had police contacts made several enquiries and were told that there was indeed a body at Issano, which the police were preparing to bury because it was beginning to decompose. The body was discovered along the line (road/track) on Tuesday.

“They (police contact) asked them not to bury the body because we wanted to go and see if it really was my son,” she said.

The man’s brother, star player of the Guyana national football team, Golden Jaguars, Richards Reynolds also known as Loddo, said that from the first sight of the body he was sure that it was his brother. He said that although the body was wrapped, he felt a strong connection to it.

“From seeing the pictures, I knew it was my brother,” he said, while adding that the only sign of visible injury was a gaping wound above the eye.

The man said that police in the area said that they felt that his brother had fallen and hit his head but the theory didn’t add up to him. In order to do his own assessment, he asked to be taken to the area were the body was found.  “When I go to where the body was found, there was no sign that he could have fall from where he was and hit his head to cause such a wound much less die,” he said.

Moore was seen in the company of a man called “Gold Teeth.” According to the Reynolds, several persons, including the man his brother was working for, said that they saw him on Tuesday morning in the company of “Gold Teeth.”

“The bossman said that he left the camp with “Gold Teeth” and a number of persons in the area said that “Gold Teeth” told them to go see my brother dying in deh line like he ketching fits (epilepsy),” he added.

According to the man, “Gold Teeth” has since disappeared from the area. According to reports the man has never used his correct name and had given a fictitious Linden address. “When I came out I checked the address that “Gold Teeth” gave and that address doesn’t exist,” he said.

Family members of Moore are appealing to “Gold Teeth” to turn himself over to the police to assist in the investigations. “We will be glad if anyone who knows this man to inform the police or family of his whereabouts, please we just want an idea of what might have cause my brother’s death and is only “Gold Teeth” know that,” pleaded Reynolds.

Reynolds said that because of the state of his brother’s body, it had to be buried at the Issano location. “This is really hard on my family, I had to leave camp to go there to put my brother to rest and it’s really hard for me keeping up with training for this weekend,” he added.

A simple memorial ceremony was held yesterday at the South Assembly of God Church in South Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden, a few lots away from where Moore once lived with his mother.
