Brazilian miners robbed of $3.5M

Two Brazilian miners were on Monday robbed at gunpoint of $3.5M in cash in the vicinity of GUYTRAC.

According to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, the Brazilian nationals left a hotel in Robb Street, where they were staying, via taxi, and headed to GUYTRAC on Mandela Avenue. He continued that when they arrived at the store, they entered in search of a mining part to purchase, but being unable to make the purchase, they left the premises. This newspaper understands that as soon as the men left the store they were pounced upon by two men armed with guns, who confiscated the two haversacks containing the money they were carrying.

Persaud disclosed that one haversack contained $1.5M, while the other contained $2M. The men then reportedly rode off on a motor scooter.

The Crime Chief stated that police are currently on the lookout for two suspects who have been identified in relation to the robbery.
