APNU poll lacks credibility

Dear Editor,
The recent poll commissioned by APNU lacks credibility and cannot be taken seriously. To begin with, it has serious methodological flaws such as the representativeness of the sample population which is highly skewed in favour of one particular ethnic group.

It is clear that the poll is calculated to create a facade of electoral support for APNU along the lines of the Dick Morris poll which was commissioned by the AFC during the 2006 elections to create the impression that the AFC would have held the balance of power in parliament. This turned out to be a far cry from the actual election results which saw the PPP/C winning the elections by a comfortable majority.

What is perhaps more unfortunate is the hypocrisy of those who claim to represent the academic community by associating themselves with a poll which is manifestly unscientific and clearly deficient in terms of scholarly rigour. No wonder the identity of the polling entity is witheld from the public since no academic worth his or her salt would be inclined to associate himself or herself with it.

Guyanese will not be fooled by such a bogus poll which is clearly motivated to create a false political reality.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
