Robert Persaud’s reaction showed the PPP had not started a process of serious introspection

Dear Editor,

Having just read Robert Persaud’s comments on the reason for the PPP’s showing at the election being poorer than they expected, I could not help but exclaim, “What arrogance!“ Instead of starting the process of serious introspection, with typical vacuousness he blames it on the indifference of the party’s supporters. Obviously, in his head, and in accordance with the party’s narrative, the PPP remains God’s gift to Guyana, and irrespective of the corruption and obvious evidence of poor governance, they must be supported since the “gains’ made since 1992 have to be preserved.

I sincerely hope that over the next 5 years, the new parliament gives Mr Persaud and his comrades the opportunity to experience how a proper democracy works. A world where decisions are taken that are based on the benefits that they bring to the people of the country, and not for the enrichment of a selected few.

Yours faithfully,
L Branche
