Henrietta man shot in confrontation with police

At about 1015h today, the police say they responded to a report of threats made by fisherman Mohan Maniram, 38 years, of Henrietta, Essequibo Coast.

Upon arrival, the police say that Maniram was seen in his yard with a length of iron and a container with gasoline in his hands. “During efforts to arrest him, he threw the gasoline on the ranks and attacked them with the length of iron, causing the police to resort to the use of force and he was shot to his right thumb”, the police said.

A search was conducted on him and 6 grammes of suspected cocaine and 2 grammes of marijuana were found in his possession.

Maniram has been admitted a patient under guard at the Suddie Hospital.
