Man shot after throwing gas on cops

A man who attacked police and doused them with gasoline was shot yesterday morning on the Essequibo Coast.

Police said that fisherman Mohan Maniram, 38, of Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, who is now a patient under guard at the Suddie Hospital, was later found with six grammes of suspected cocaine and two grammes of marijuana in his possession.

The man’s encounter with police, which occurred around 10:15am, was due to them responding to a report made against him.

Upon arriving, police ranks saw Maniram in his yard with a length of iron and a container with gasoline in his hands. “During efforts to arrest him, he threw the gasoline on the ranks and attacked them with the length of iron, causing the police to resort to the use of force and he was shot to his right thumb,” the police said.
