Beer garden owner found stabbed to death

The body of a beer garden owner was yesterday discovered in her home aback her shop at Public Road Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, and from all appearances the incident seems to be a murder/robbery.

Dead is Karen Reid-Patterson, 45, of Lot 6 Public Road, Mc Doom, who owned and operated Flava’s Cool Off beer garden at the same address.

The discovery was made around 8.45 yesterday morning by the woman’s upstairs neighbour.

When Stabroek News visited the scene, a crowd had gathered around the woman’s home, as police conducted their investigations inside. The neighbour who made the discovery, declined to share her identity, was still visibly shaken and refused to give a comment on the issue. This newspaper understands that prior to the incident, Reid was seen by persons in the neighbourhood outside the Beer Garden sweeping and cleaning her environs.

Some of her relatives were also present at the scene and they related that it had been a while since they spoke to or even saw her, since she moved from her home in Essequibo. Patterson’s husband is overseas and according to a friend of hers, he left the country only a few days ago on holiday.

When this newspaper revisited the scene late yesterday afternoon, the woman’s relatives were in the process of removing all her belonging from the house which she rented.

A police press release later revealed that Patterson had sustained multiple stab wound about the body.

Patterson had no children and leaves to mourn her five brothers and four sisters.
