North west miners row ends in murder

An argument between two miners ended tragically on Saturday when one man chopped the other to death at Moruka, North West District (NWD).

Dead is Fabian George, 25, who is reportedly from another section of the NWD.

The incident, police reported in a statement yesterday, occurred at about 1.30 pm on Saturday. Police, according to the statement, have launched an investigation into the killing of George after receiving a report that he had been fatally chopped following an argument.

At the time of the incident, police also reported, George and his attacker had been consuming alcohol together.

A team of investigators, the release said, has been dispatched to Kairko Village, Moruka where the incident occurred.

This newspaper has since learnt from a senior police source that the investigators arrived at the location and are in the process of gathering information.

The source further said that after wounding George the suspect escaped. Meanwhile, a Port Kaituma resident told Stabroek News that George’s body is currently resting at the Port Kaituma Hospital morgue. Preparations, accor-ding to the resident, are being made to have the man’s body brought to the city.

The resident, who requested anonymity, further told this newspaper that efforts had been made to apprehend the suspect but the man was still armed when he fled.

“Nobody nah woulda want to run behind no man that still got a chopper in he hand,” the resident said.

During the first quarter of this year 8 murders were recorded in Police E&F Division.
